In-house versus outsourced accelerator?

In-house versus outsourced accelerator?

The debate about in-house enterprise development rather than an outsourced solution is always in the air.
Strong opinions for and against utilizing an accelerator can be made, as there are differing objectives, advantages and disadvantages to each.

Different names for the vehicle that houses enterprise development exist, to name a few:
– Accelerator
– Incubator
– Enterprise hub
– Enterprise development fund

Let’s look at in-house first:
The advantages include the following:
– The company maintains direct control over the project
– You would be able to link ED beneficiaries to your company easier in future
– Closer working relationship with beneficiaries
Disadvantages:
– Higher cost due to the involvement of own staff
– Recruitment and selection take up considerably more time
– Distraction from day-to-day operations
Using an accelerator:
The advantages include the following:
– Hands-off approach allows for more accountability from the implementation partner
– Specification of project and beneficiaries can be enforced
– People and resource investment is minimal
– Specialist Incubator skills and expertise because of a focused approach of the partner
Disadvantages:
– No direct relationship with beneficiaries, requiring a trust relationship that must be monitored
– potential for a mismatch between company and beneficiary
– Company less involved than in the in-house approach
At Guqula Business Development we are able to assist and some way or form with both in-house or outsourced implementation.
